Can I split full backups into 2 different days instead of 1st Sunday of the months?

Jan Stefanovic
Gents

can some of you, bacula gurus help me with this?
Can I split full backups into 2 different days instead of 1st Sunday of the months?
Let say 1st Sunday half, and second Sunday the rest?
And if yes, what's are the settings? Any example would be great!!!

Million thanks in advance

Thanks, take care

You can customize schedules using a custom include file.  For example:

https://gist.github.com/blackknight36/d39ce8fd17d3e87d66a655493699dcde

This configuration has 4 different cycles which are chosen at random by
our bacula director using puppet.

Hello

I think this is not what he asked for. I understood he somehow likes to have a splitted fullback into 50% with 1 week delay. Like he has 2 big directories and on first Sunday he likes to back one and on the second Sunday he likes to backup the other one within one job. I never heard about such a setup.

I would suggest to make 2 jobs for that one backing up the first dir and the other job job the second dir with 2 different schedules of course.

Michael Watters

Yeah, I realized that after reading the message again.  In this case the best option might be two different jobs with custom file sets.

In reply to this post by Mike Fröhner

Thank you, gents!!! Appreciate your inputs a lot!

Please note, we are not using tapes here, just file backups.

I actually created 2 new pools with different “Label Format” and added those huge servers to both pools, splitting them 50/50

So, now  have pools:

ITServersPool-A

ITServersPool-B

And I’ve changed bacula-dir.conf:  Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 2

Not sure yet how to schedule Full backups on 1st Sunday for ITServersPool-A  and 2nd Sunday for ITServersPool-B

As well, when I’ve changed Maximum Concurrent Jobs = 2

will Bacula run increment backups to both pools (using different tapes)

or will Bacula run increment backups randomly?

have a great day, gents!

Thanks, take care

You just create two different schedules, like:

Schedule {
Name = 1stsunday
Run = full at 1st sun [time]
}

Schedule {
Name = 2ndsunday
Run = full at 2nd sun [time]
}

If you don't tell the schedule to run an incremental or differential it won't run it. It just runs that what you specify at the schedule.

Re: Can I split full backups into 2 different days instead of 1st Sunday of the months?

Jan Stefanovic

Hi Mike,

RE: You just create two different schedules, like:

and how am I telling bacula which servers/pools should use for 1st and 2nd Sunday?

No idea who to assign pools/jobs to 1stsunday or 2ndsunday

Right now I have this (which is bacula default):

Schedule {

  Name = "WeeklyCycle"

  Run = Full 1st sun at 23:05

  Run = Differential 2nd-5th sun at 23:05

  Run = Incremental mon-sat at 23:05

}

# This schedule does the catalog. It starts after the WeeklyCycle

Schedule {

  Name = "WeeklyCycleAfterBackup"

  Run = Full sun-sat at 23:10

Thanks, take care
